About the role 

We are seeking an experienced, motivated Financial Controller to join our team. Reporting to the CEO and General Manager, this Leadership role is responsible for delivering operational finance excellence and ensuring end-to-end accuracy and efficiency across financial systems, reporting, and processes. The role is central to driving financial health, supporting strategic growth, and building a strong team aligned with OPC values. 

The FC will need to be technology-forward, hands-on and on top of the numbers.  As a member of the Leadership team, you will play an important role in the overall management of the company.   

Key responsibilities will include: 

  1. Lead and optimise all finance functions: These include AP/AR, general ledgers, inventory, payroll, cash flow management, tax reporting and filing and required reconciliations, ensuring accurate and on time financial execution.  

  2. Own the monthly close and reporting process: Deliver high-quality financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses that support leadership decision-making.  

  3. Analysis: Examine current and past financial data and company performance to identify errors, trends and improvements aligned with accounting best practices and standards. 

  4. Strategy and recommendations: Help develop budgets and provide data-driven recommendations to Leadership on strategies and ways to improve financial performance and stability. 

  5. Champion financial systems and process improvement: This includes recommendations for system optimisation, compliance adherence and continuous performance enhancement. 

  6. People and Leadership: Engage and partner deeply with the team and the broader organisation to foster transparency, accountability, capability growth and a collaborative team culture 

About you: 

To be successful in this role you must have: 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (CPA or CA highly desirable) 

  • 5+ years in a senior finance role (experience in IT services and recurring revenue highly desirable) 

  • Proven management experience with strong analytical skills 

  • Expert attention to detail and impeccable communication skills 

  • A strategic, forward-looking mindset with the ability to explain trends and issues and partner with the Leadership team to drive performance in the business.   

  • A positive and engaging personality with a hands-on, action-oriented style and a genuine interest in this rapidly evolving industry  

  • Be a self-starter who is innately curious and will work hard while maintaining a great attitude 

  • Be results driven with strong follow through 

  • Be Canberra based
