Step into an autonomous finance office role where you gain exposure to all aspects of day-to-day operations.

Our client is a purpose-driven, Canberra-based organisation that delivers services with a genuine community focus.

With approximately 40 employees, they offer the benefits of a close-knit and collaborative workplace where individuals are trusted to take ownership and contribute across a broad range of business activities.

The organisation has a flexible and supportive culture, a stable leadership team, and a practical approach to getting things done.

This is the type of environment where your contribution is visible, your expertise is valued, and you have the opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys variety, autonomy and making a real impact.

Commencing in late June, this labour hire contract will run through to early August, with the opportunity for a comprehensive handover period before the person commences leave.

Covering a period of extended leave, you will step into a broad finance role that touches all aspects of the organisation’s day-to-day operations.

Rather than being confined to a narrow function, you will have the opportunity to manage everything from transactional finance through to supporting month-end activities and working alongside the external accountant.

With secured funding, there is also an opportunity for the initial contract to be extended or, for the right person, transition into a permanent position.

The Role

Reporting into the COO and working closely with an external accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the finance function.

As a Finance Officer, your responsibilities include:

  • End-to-end Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processing
  • Maintaining financial records and transactions within Xero
  • Managing monthly payment runs and supplier payments
  • Performing bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Completing end-of-month credit card reconciliations
  • Supporting complex month-end billing processes
  • Assisting the external accountant with financial reporting, tax compliance, month-end activities, and other accounting functions as required
  • Contributing to process improvements and supporting broader business operations as required
The Ideal Person

You are a hands-on finance professional who enjoys being the person that keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

You take pride in accuracy, enjoy solving problems independently, and are comfortable managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.

You may have developed your experience within a small or medium-sized organisation, the APS, or a commercial finance team where you have gained broad exposure across AP, AR, reconciliations and month-end processes.

Experience with Xero will be highly regarded, and CPA qualifications (or progress towards them).
