About Sisters In Spirit Aboriginal Corporation

Sisters In Spirit Aboriginal Corporation (SISAC) is a small all Aboriginal women-led organisation based in the ACT. Formally established in 2017 and officially launched in July 2021, SISAC was created in response to the need for a dedicated, culturally safe space for Aboriginal women and girls in the Canberra region. We exist to support, advocate for and walk alongside Aboriginal women and girls, ensuring they have access to justice, culturally safe support, and strong representation across legal and community systems. As an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation, we are grounded in culture, accountability and the leadership of Aboriginal women, working to strengthen safety, voice and self-determination for our community.

About The Role

The Governance & Executive Support Officer is responsible for ensuring strong governance, compliance, and organisational integrity across SISAC. This role acts as the primary liaison between the Board and the organisation, overseeing secretarial functions, corporate services, and compliance. This role ensures culturally safe and transparent governance practices and supports the effective functioning of organisational systems in alignment with SISAC’s mission and values.

Who Are We Looking For

Ideally, we are seeking a strong Aboriginal woman to step into this role to strengthen our governance and leadership capacity. We would want you to bring experience in governance, secretariat or corporate support within the Aboriginal Community Controlled or not-for-profit organisation, and to have a solid understanding of ORIC the CATSI Act and reporting requirements. Formal qualifications in governance, law, finance, public administration would be great, but not necessary, and we would welcome someone who has lived and professional experience, who understands how to support a Board and senior leadership with integrity, honesty and heart. If you are grounded in culture and community, values-led, and confident working across community and government spaces we would love to hear from you. If you can work under pressure, be organised, proactive, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves when needed, please apply! But most importantly, we want a sister who is committed to strengthening outcomes for Aboriginal women and girls in the ACT!
