Details: The Education Directorate's Hearing and Vision service is dedicated to ensuring equitable curriculum access and promoting the inclusion and independence of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) or blind or have low vision (BLV). The team boasts specialist knowledge and post graduate qualifications specific to sensory loss. This expertise includes understanding impacts on learning, workarounds, and technologies for maximum engagement, participation and inclusion. Under broad direction, as an Itinerant Teacher - Hearing you are responsible for driving high-quality educational outcomes for students (Preschool to Year 12) who are Deaf or hard of hearing. This is a highly mobile teaching role that requires you to work across multiple school environments, providing evidence-based adjustments and direct student support with explicit teaching in English and/or Auslan to ensure every learner on our caseload can access the curriculum equitably.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Prior to commencing in this role, a minimum of four years full time (or equivalent) tertiary study leading to the award of a recognised school teaching qualification and a current full teaching registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) (or eligibility for teacher registration with the ACT TQI) is required.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under theWorking with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to -Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle
  • Auslan Certification or equivalent proven experience

Highly Desirable

  • Masters of Disability Studies: Specialisation in Education: Deaf Hard of Hearing or equivalent
