Full time
Perform Australia is seeking an energetic, fun-loving actor to share their knowledge and love of drama with children and young people.
Each week you will have classes in specific age groups (6-9 years, 10-13 years and 14-17 years) of keen students who want to learn performance skills. Some terms we work towards live performances, so some directing experience is helpful.
What you'll be doing
You'll be delivering top quality after-school drama classes using our detailed curriculum, which you prepare in your own time before the day. Having our full curriculum and scripts provided to you dramatically reduces your preparation time but still allows you to add your own flair, depending on the needs of your class. You'll run a warm-up, an energiser game, and get into the body of your teaching for the week, whether that be acting skills and techniques, rehearsals, or other relevant content that will help kids grow as performers. You'll wrap up the lesson with a fantastic summary on what they've learned about acting, and make sure that all your students leave with happy faces.
Conditions
Classes take place in suburbs around Canberra so it's recommended you have a car.
Casual and fixed-term part-time contracts are available and occasionally there are extra shifts available to cover absences of other teachers.
Who you are
You already know you enjoy teaching, or are keen to become a teacher, and are someone who loves spending time with children
You have, or are working towards, a performing arts qualification
You have some performance credits behind you
You are passionate about the positive role that drama can play in the lives of young people, in building confidence and creativity
You're familiar with the demands of stage and screen
You have an interest in directing and an understanding of theatricality
You're excited to see children and teenagers grow and develop, and you know how to speak words of positivity into their lives
You know how to 'switch it on' so that every lesson is a fresh performance for you and the children in your class
You are able to commit a minimum of 12 months to this role.
If this sounds like you, we are keen to hear from you! Pay is commensurate with experience and based on the Miscellaneous Award.
You must also be eligible for a Working With Vulnerable People card without restriction for working with children.
Hours
We have a number of shifts available, usually between 3:45pm-7:30pm, depending on the class and location.
Please submit your CV featuring any performances or roles you've had, plus other relevant work experience, along with a letter outlining your suitability for the role through this website. Please note we will not accept applications direct by email to Perform Australia.
Please address your letter to Mr Kieran Taylor, Program Director
