The Opportunity

ASIO is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Information Management (IM) - Traineeship Program, commencing early 2026. As a trainee, you will be supported to complete formal tertiary qualifications in Information Management, as well as receive on‑job mentoring and professional development opportunities. The programme will showcase the breadth of work that ASIO undertakes and set you on a pathway for a career with purpose.

Trainees commence at the ASIO Employee Level 2 (APS2 equivalent), progress to an ASIO Employee Level3 (APS3 equivalent) after the first 12months having completed the required programme competencies, and are promoted to ASIO Employee Level4 (APS4 equivalent) on successful completion of the programme.

Program Overview

During the 2‑year programme, you will:

  • Move through various technical teams within the Information Management directorate to build your networks and learn new skills.
  • Receive on‑job training regarding information management policies, practices and systems.
  • Be supported throughout the programme by a dedicated mentor and have access to a range of organisational support mechanisms.

Additionally, you will learn how to:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of information.
  • Communicate and plan in a work environment.
  • Use numerous ASIO information systems.
Role Responsibilities
  • Assist with the facilitation and management of ASIO's incoming electronic correspondence and document distribution.
  • Assist with the facilitation and management of ASIO's incoming and outgoing physical correspondence and courier services.
  • Use tools and technologies to create, organise, store, retrieve, share, preserve or destroy information and data in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the management of user access and classify information appropriately.
  • Assist others to follow appropriate information and data management behaviours.
  • Follow information and data management procedures to meet legislative requirements.
