Duty Statement
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the specified classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collaborate closely with other maintenance services directors and the Assistant Secretary Property Services to form a cohesive management group of the DPS maintenance services function.
- As a member of the management group provide strategic leadership and direction to one or more teams that deliver maintenance, landscape, logistics and building management systems functions and related activities.
- Manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term objectives. Evaluate and monitor complex, technical problems and develop viable solutions, in consultation with technical experts, that contribute to DPS stewardship of Australian Parliament House.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, providing expert advice to senior executives and Presiding Officers as required.
- Apply sound judgement and risk management in decision-making, ensuring compliance with legislative, policy, and governance frameworks. Ensure relevant policies, procedures and practices are contemporary and are fit for purpose and reviewed on an appropriate basis.
- Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and capability development within maintenance services teams. Monitor industry trends and standards to ensure the development and implementation of best practice processes in the maintenance of Parliament House.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality reports, that incorporate relevant technical expertise and input from maintenance teams and contractors, and present to senior stakeholders.
- Proven ability in finance and resource management, contributing to the sustainable operations in a a maintenance and facility services context. Lead and manage budget reporting, risk management and business plans for the section.
