Company Description

FIFTH DOMAIN is a Cyber Workforce Intelligence platform that tests and proves the readiness of cyber operations teams through real-world, live attack simulations. The platform uses capture-the-flag style scenarios and real-time performance tracking to baseline capability, reveal skill gaps, and deliver targeted, in-platform training. FIFTH DOMAIN is designed for CISOs, SOC Managers, and security leaders who need clear visibility into team performance under pressure. The solution is trusted by defense, government, and an expanding range of critical infrastructure, finance, healthcare, and enterprise organizations that cannot afford uncertainty about their cyber readiness.

Role Description

As a Software Engineer at FIFTH DOMAIN, you will design, build, and maintain core features of our cyber readiness platform, with a focus on robust, scalable back-end services. You will collaborate with product managers, security specialists, and other engineers to translate requirements into secure, high-performing software components. Daily work includes implementing new APIs and integrations, enhancing existing services, writing automated tests, and participating in code reviews to ensure code quality and reliability. You will help troubleshoot production issues, optimize system performance, and contribute to architectural decisions that support a high‑availability, data‑intensive platform. This is a full‑time hybrid role based in Canberra, with flexibility to work from home part of the week.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Proficiency in Software Development and Programming, with experience delivering production‑grade applications and services.
  • Hands‑on experience in Back‑End Web Development, including building and consuming APIs and working with databases.
  • Solid understanding of Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP) and related design patterns.
  • Experience with modern development tools and practices (e.g., version control, CI/CD, automated testing, code review).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and containerization (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous.
  • Interest or experience in cybersecurity, security operations, or cyber training environments is a strong plus.
  • Effective communication skills, ability to work in a collaborative, cross‑functional team, and commitment to inclusive, respectful work practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
