The RoleThe Fleet Engineer supports the Chief Marine Engineer and Fleet and Marine Engineering Section in delivering engineering governance, certification assurance, and technical oversight across the ABF maritime fleet. The role contributes to the management of vessel certification, engineering records, and fleet technical data systems to ensure statutory and safety-critical documentation remains current, accurate and accessible. The position supports the maintenance of fleet certification dashboards, engineering registers and technical documentation systems that underpin safe and compliant vessel operations. The Fleet Engineer also assists with the review of engineering documentation including repair plans, defect reports, and technical investigations to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and ABF engineering governance arrangements. In undertaking these duties, the role works closely with seagoing engineers, in-service support providers, shipyards, and sustainment teams to support safe and effective fleet maintenance and sustainment activities. The role contributes to engineering data analysis and defect trend monitoring to support preventative maintenance planning, risk management, and engineering decision‑making across the fleet. The Fleet Engineer ensures work practices remain consistent with the ABF Safety Management System, applicable International Maritime Organisation (IMO) conventions, Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Marine Orders, and other regulatory frameworks governing ABF vessel operations.
