About The Role:

This organisation is seeking a highly skilled APS6 Communications Officer who can quickly grasp complex and sensitive subject matter and transform it into clear, strategic messaging.

Level/Classification: APS6
Contract Type: Permanent role
Contract Duration: 12 Months + 6 Months extension
Location: Canberra, ACT
Indicative Salary: $102,266.00 – 114,988.00 + Super
Requirements:

MUST have a minimum NV1 Security Clearance held prior to commencement
Ability and willingness to Undergo Police Check

Key Responsibilities

Develop, draft, and deliver high-quality internal and external communications
Prepare briefing materials, speeches, talking points, and messaging frameworks
Support stakeholder engagement strategies and communication plans
Translate complex policy or program information into clear, accessible content
Coordinate executive-level communications and approvals processes
Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Ensure consistency of messaging across multiple channels and audiences
Support governance reporting, meeting papers, and documentation as required

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience in a Communications Officer or APS6 equivalent role
Strong background in government or large complex organisations
Excellent written communication skills with attention to tone and detail
Experience preparing executive briefs, reports, and stakeholder materials
Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills at senior levels
Familiarity with governance, policy, or program environments highly regarded
