APS6 Communications Officer – ICT Strategic Communications

Canberra ACT | NV1 Clearance Required | 12-Month Non-Ongoing Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Communications Officer to join a high-performing ICT Strategic Communications team within Defence.

This role is ideal for a communications professional who enjoys translating complex information into clear, engaging content and partnering with stakeholders to drive awareness, engagement, and adoption of technology initiatives.

Working closely with ICT and cyber security subject matter experts, you will develop and deliver communication strategies that support digital transformation, change initiatives, and enterprise-wide technology programs.

About the Role

As an APS6 Communications Officer, you will:

  • Develop and implement communication plans supporting ICT and cyber security initiatives.

  • Create high-quality communication products including executive briefings, intranet articles, presentations, announcements, and awareness materials.

  • Partner with technical SMEs and project teams to translate complex information into clear, audience-focused messaging.

  • Provide strategic communications advice to stakeholders across a range of ICT programs.

  • Support change, adoption, and engagement activities for digital transformation initiatives.

  • Conduct stakeholder consultation, research, and communications planning activities.

  • Manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes.

About You

You are an experienced communications professional with demonstrated success delivering strategic communications in complex environments.

You will bring:

  • Experience developing and delivering communication strategies and plans.

  • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills.

  • Experience producing executive communications, briefings, presentations, and internal communications products.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.

  • The ability to simplify complex or technical information for diverse audiences.

  • Experience supporting organisational change, transformation, technology, digital, or business improvement initiatives.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Highly Regarded
  • Experience supporting ICT, cyber security, digital transformation, or technology programs.

  • Experience working within Federal Government, Defence, or other complex organisations.

  • Change communications or employee engagement experience.

Security Requirements

Applicants must hold a current NV1 Security Clearance at a minimum.
