Maintenance Officer - Canberra

THE OPPORTUNITY

If you're a handyman or sole trader who's had enough of chasing invoices, covering your own vehicle and tool costs, and managing the unpredictability of working for yourself, Viva Leisure has an alternative.

We're one of Australia's leading fitness companies (ASX-listed, 300+ locations nationwide), and we're looking for an experienced Handyman / General Maintenance person to join our internal facilities team in Canberra and the surrounding areas. This is a permanent, full-time salaried role designed for a practical, self-sufficient professional who takes pride in quality work and wants the variety of multi-site maintenance with the security of a stable income and a supportive team behind them.

• Company vehicle, tools/materials provided — no extra daily costs to cover
• Work comes through a system that is centrally monitored/managed – no quoting or invoicing
• Consistent, full-time work with a predictable salary

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING 

No two days are the same. Across a range of our fitness facilities throughout Sydney and the surrounding areas, you'll be the go-to person keeping things running. Your work will include a mix of:

• General repairs and maintenance — patching, painting, door hardware, fixtures and fittings
• Gym equipment servicing and repairs
• Scheduled preventative maintenance tasks
• Responding to reactive callouts and urgent on-site needs
• Supporting new club fit-outs and refurbishments
• High-level cleaning, window cleaning, and periodic deep cleaning
• Ordering and fitting spare parts

You'll manage your own daily work orders, liaise with club staff and area managers, and have genuine ownership of your region — the independence of working across multiple sites, without the overhead of running your own business.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

A trade qualification is not essential — what matters most is solid hands-on experience and a get-it-done attitude. You may be an experienced handyman, a maintenance all-rounder, or a tradesperson looking to move away from sole trading into something more stable and rewarding.

You'll be well suited if you have:

• Proven experience in a handyman, general maintenance, or trade role
• Strong practical skills across building maintenance, minor repairs, and equipment servicing
• Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot problems on the spot
• Experience working across multiple sites or locations
• A proactive, independent work style with a strong sense of ownership
• Clear communication skills and a professional, positive manner with site staff

Essential Certifications & Licences

• Current Driver's Licence
• White Card (Construction Induction)
• Asbestos Awareness certification
• First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain)
• Working at Heights (or equivalent)
• Silica Dust Hazard Awareness — 10830NAT (mandatory in ACT, desirable elsewhere)
